Cedar Lake Improvement District (CLID) Meeting Minutes held on October 4, 2021, 6:30-8:00 pm at Paul Hoyt’s home due to COVID.

Attendees: Joel Larsen, Tim Schroeder, Paul Hoyt, Pamela Caselius, Tim Singleton, and Dave Nielsen.

Tim Schroeder provided an update on the summer lake weed survey in that is was still not yet completed. This plan is needed to help solidify our 2022 treatment plan for the DNR based on current weed growth. Tim is going to follow-up with Melissa on status and check on the weed treatment rebid process as that is up for renewal this winter.

Tim Singleton provided an update on the treasurer’s report. No activity for this month other than interest earned on funds in Savings.

There was a lot of discussion again around the weed treatment for this year and how the results did not meet the CLID’s expectations. As previously mentioned in prior meetings all agreed the conditions were poor and the treatment for 2021 using Diquat was not effective whatsoever. This frustrated everyone as far too much effort and dollars had been put into the lake over the past 10 years to allow for this much deterioration. It was determined that the CLID would prefer to move back to Fluoridone or Aquathol for 2022 as these have been proven to be effective for our lake’s conditions.

As a result of this it was agreed that Tim Schroeder and Joel Larsen were going to request a meeting with the DNR before the end of the year to see what we could do to help them better understand this situation and determine what we can do to better address it for next year.

Tim Schroeder and Tim Singleton also provided an updated on the carp project involving WSB and Associates. As mentioned in prior meetings the plan involves a two-year strategy to survey the lake for optimal sites for seining/harvesting carp which includes: lake reconnaissance, permits, radio tagging of carp, telemetry, coordination of fishing contractors and a final report.

WSB recently advised after electro-fishing they have found 1-3 year old carp in the lake. They also advised we have 2 areas of our lake that are effective for seining. One is the south end and the other is on the north end. Tentative plans for seining are to occur in March of 2022 weather permitting.

Pam provided an update on the website and after much discussion it was determined that it was in need of some freshening up. Pam is going to ask our provider Bevcomm for some suggestions/recommendations on what can be done to accommodate this.

The meeting adjourned via motion from Paul Hoyt and seconded by Joel Larsen at 8:00 PM.
