Minutes of Board Meetings
Attendees: Tim Schroeder, Paul Hoyt, Dave Skoglund, Dave Nielsen, Amy Gallegher and John Tuschner
Agenda:
2023 Budget Approval
Treasurer’s report
Curly Leaf Pond Weed Treatment Update
Website Postings
Board Membership going forward
Tim who is overseeing levee approval advised that the $40,000 levee was approved by the county on 9-5-2023 for another year.
Amy provided the treasurer’s report for May, June, July and August. Major expenses included weed treatment, Carp study costs and website costs.
Tim brought up the treatment and how everyone felt it performed this summer based on lake conditions. Sentiment was overall very positive and there were few complaints that anyone was aware of. Amy advised that she had not yet received the 3rd party survey results from Steve McCombs but confirmed Steve had completed the survey on August 26th so felt we should be receiving it any day now.
Paul Hoyt is now overseeing Carp and provided an update on the WSB carp project. As of now the plan with WSB and the CLID carp project is for surveying to occur this fall and Seining to occur the spring of 2024. WSB’s last survey has shown that the carp population has not changed much over the past year and the weight of the carp has not either but length of them on average have shown growth. They will have more to update here after the fall survey.
Tim brought up the invitation we all received from Scott County Watershed Management Organization for a Shallow Lake Seminar to discuss management strategies and Shallow Lake Ecology. It is occurring October 11, 2023 at 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Mystic Lake Event Center. Tim Schroeder and John Tuschner both volunteered to attend and report back on the details from it.
The meeting adjourned via motion from Dave Nielsen and seconded by Amy. The next meeting is set for October 16th, 2023 which is 1 week later than normal (to accommodate the SWMO Shallow Water Seminar attendees schedule) at 6:30 pm at the New Prague Public Library.
