Cedar Lake Improvement District meeting notes from February 12, 2013 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the New Prague Public Library Meeting Room -
Attendees: Bob Vanasek, Tom Heide, Mike Speltz, Marie Jaeger, Lowell Mohn, Dave Nielsen, Brad Eller and guest potential board member Theresa Jacobsen
Agenda Items for discussion:
Introductions to Theresa Jacobsen were completed as a guest attendee. Theresa was interested in possibly joining the board as Bob's replacement when he retires and wanted to attend a meeting to get a better feel for the role and responsibilities. At the end of the meeting, she indicated she would like to become a board member. The board voted to present Theresa as our nominee at the April annual meeting to be approved by those in attendance.
Bob presented treasurers report of current balances in checking and certificates of deposits. Bob also advised the carp seining invoice had been paid. He recommended that he and Mike (future treasurer) meet to go over reporting yearly requirements to various county offices.
Mike updated the board on the carp seining project. He advised that the commercial fisherman Don Geyer had completed sonar testing of both the north and south end of the lake with few carp to be found. Don is coming back to do additional sonar testing in additional areas in the next couple weeks. He has agreed to seine Cedar Lake this winter if there are any large schools to be found from the sonar tests.
In preparation for the annual meeting scheduled for the last Tuesday in April at St. Patrick’s Church, the board approved the following agenda items:
Guests to be invited include the following:
Mike has reserved the hall and Bob is coordinating insurance for the event. Lowell will get an updated mailing list from Scott County for the postcard mailing, draft the mailing content for review/approval by the board, and mail by the middle of April. Brad is bringing microphones for the sound system.
Marie announced that the CLID website auto update functionality was now working and Dave concurred. She indicated that there had been no responses at time of meeting to the board opening or carp sighting postings. Marie has also had the website updated with additional pictures from Brad of a pick-up being pulled out that had recently went thru the ice in a surprising location on west side of Cedar. Mike commented that he has heard several lakes in the area have unusual ice conditions this year with thin spots so lakes really shouldn’t be considered safe for vehicles.
Mike brought up the New Prague Sportsman Club and their continuing programs involving the lake. In an effort to provide information about their programs, we created a link on the CLID website to them. Mike attended their last meeting and suggested we also invite their membership to attend the all residents meeting.
Tom advised that his recent correspondence with Melissa from SWMO and that Keegan from the DNR, should have the Lake Vegetation draft plan for Cedar Lake done in the next week for review by the board before final version is sent to the DNR. Board members will review as soon as it is received.
The next board meeting is March 13, 2013.
