2018 SIXTH ANNUAL CARP KABOB TOURNAMENT

May 18-19, 2018

The 6th Annual Carp Kabob bow fishing tournament weather conditions were interesting after a very late ice out and then dramatic increase in water temperature. Weather was in the mid 80’s with calm winds.  As we were launching the boats to kick off the tournament there was a large amount of lightning as a small front moved through. Due to scheduling conflicts with several past loyal attending teams, the number of participating boats was reduced from 10 to 8.

Throughout the evening, temperatures dropped and we had a brief downpour, just enough to get everyone soaked which is common for our tournament. The arriving weather front may have pushed the fish into deeper water making it more difficult for them to be located. Water clarity was not as big of an issue this year as it has been in years’ past, but the fish were still tough to locate.

Come weigh-in, we had 6 out of the 8 boats remaining to weigh-in fish. The three-time returning champions of Nathan Boyer and Austin Linder came out with hopes to four-peat as Carp Kabob Champions in which they sealed up by one fish.   They also had a 25.14 pound carp which was good enough to grab the largest fish prize of $250 to add to their $1,000 grand prize of first place. Hunter Demo, Travis Billmeyer and Matt Tracy grabbed the $500 second place prize. In addition to the second place finish they also stuck a 12.13 pound carp which would add $150 to their pot. The remaining fishermen were able to take many bullheads out of the lake, but were not able to catch any carp.

Thanks to all of the fishermen, volunteers, and onlookers that came to the weigh-in. We also thank the Scott WMO, MN DNR, Scott County Sheriff’s Dept. and homeowners in the CLID for assisting in the planning and/or being supportive of this event as part of the lake management plan.
